Staying calm and taking action

by Genevieve Van Drunen

Natalie Adelmann

From a young age, Natalie Evelyn Adelmann has been on a stage.

Whether for ballet, hip-hop, jazz dance or for a theater production like “Hairspray,” she never felt the stage fright that others do.

“When you’re young, you’re not embarrassed to do what you love, even in front of others,” Adelmann said. “I just conditioned that into my everyday life.”

Natalie’s love for theater doesn’t stop when she walks off the stage. Adelmann has participated in back-stage crew, helping actors.

Adelmann’s favorite back-stage job was costumes, she loved coming up with outfits that fit the themes of the play(s).

“I have always been into fashion, never really into painting and building so I tried costumes and loved it.”

She still wanted to engage with an audience whether that be dancing or speaking on her beliefs. When she wasn’t on stage she was in the action, if that was reporting on world struggles, or feminism activism.

Even though Adelmann, 16, hasn’t participated in any feminism charities or groups yet she is planning on it in the next year or so. “I am looking forward to joining my school feminism group,” Adelmann said.

Adelmann has served three years on the girls’ varsity golf team for her high school.

She is interested in getting other women into prominently male-dominated sports. Adelmann wants to be the person to show these girls that they can do anything they want.

“My little sister (Kaylee) has been a big inspiration for me and is one of my best friends,” Adelmann said. “We fought for a while but realized we had more in common than I ever thought and we have been so close ever since.”

Although her relationship with her sister didn’t come easy to Natalie at first, history and English did. She loved learning about past world struggles and getting trapped into stories.

Adelmann loves things like her family, her two dogs Marshal and Pepper, her friends, Adelmann also loves traveling with her family to Tennessee, specifically Nashville and music ranging from Foo Fighters, Paramore, even Doja Cat.

“It’s good to listen to a little bit of everything, it keeps my mind open and encourages me to try new things.” Adelmann said.
